Following a month of storms and cold weather, 1st Class decided to investigate whether or not fat can act as an insulator to help to keep us warm! We learned all about blubber and how it acts as an insulator to keep sea mammals warm in chilly water. We conducted an experiment where we covered our fingers with a layer of fat ( butter) and dipped them into cold water. We then came to the conclusion that our fingers that were covered in fat were more protected from the cold water than our fingers without the fat. We enjoyed this experiment!
